A pot of coffee can only be as good as the beans used to make it. So coffee beans are the most important aspect of the coffee industry. Brewing is important. Coffee makers are handy. But without good beans all the brewing or coffee makers in the world can't make a good pot of coffee. Those who want to make some coffee typically have two choices. They can either buy ground up coffee beans or they can purchase whole ones. Either type can lose freshness if exposed to air for too long, so those buying their coffee from the local supermarket should look for brands that are completely sealed. Those who put a premium on freshness should buy whole coffee beans and then grind it up themselves. While coffee beans naturally lose freshness if not inside a sealed package, they will stay fresher for a longer period outside of a package if they are whole.
