Slow Cooker Consumers who don't mind waiting a little longer for their meal to finish cooking can actually make good use out of a slow cooker. Slow cookers cook food at lower temperatures than would, say, an oven. As such, it's actually possible to put food into a slow cooker and leave it unattended for hours at a time. Furthermore, because slow cookers cook at usually no more than 280° F, they require much less electricity than ovens do.
Slow cookers, which look somewhat like pots with a lid, are plugged into the wall. Before putting food into slow cookers, users should first make sure the food is cut up into small chunks to promote thorough cooking. It is also important to ensure that the slow cookers are at least half full and no more than two-thirds full.
Learning to effectively use slow cookers takes time because
people are generally not used to cooking food over such a long period
of time. Fortunately, however, slow cookers tend to come with recipes
and with food preparation times. Users can reference this information
to get an idea as to how long it will take for a particular dish to finish
cooking.
